What it teaches

Enough Spanish to get through a trip: order food, buy tickets, take a taxi, check into a hotel, get medicine, ask the way, and, just as important, understand what people say back. The AI asks 3 questions (where you’re going, what you already know), places you, drills you on what to say and what you’ll hear, then plays a waiter, a taxi driver, a pharmacist, a receptionist, a fonda owner and a stranger on the street. They only speak Spanish. Before each new topic you get a short card; then you drill it. Spain and Latin America forms both count; the tutor teaches and corrects in your destination’s form (Mexico if you’re not sure).

How long

2-3 sessions, roughly 70-90 rounds plus 4 role-plays, then a final test. Trip within 7 days? Say so: trip mode drills a 30-item trip set in the order you’ll need it and runs 3 role-plays (incl. the fast talker). About 40 rounds. A one-line save code at the end of each session lets you carry on in a new chat.

The modules

  1. M0

    The survival core

Sounds, politeness, rescue phrases, numbers, prices, times

  2. M1

    Say it (the phrase bank)

English situation → student types the Spanish

  3. M2

    Understand what they say back

Spanish line → student says what it means, in English

  4. M3

    Role-plays

    Scripted scene with a local

  5. M4

  6. M5

Nouns and articles (el or la, plurals, el agua)optional

el or la, plurals, el agua

Before it teaches, it asks

  1. 1
Where are you going, and when? (Spain, Mexico, somewhere else in Latin America, or not sure yet.) And how much Spanish do you have: none, a few words, some school Spanish, or you can get by?
    AI voice (ElevenLabs)
  2. 2
Three quick ones, type what you’d say in Spanish, best guess is fine: (a) ask the waiter for the bill, (b) ask how much something costs, (c) say you don’t understand.
  3. 3
“Siga todo recto y gire en la segunda a la izquierda.” What does that mean? (Going to Latin America or not sure? You get a Latin American line instead.)

What’s exact, and what isn’t

Show

Straight from the course’s own notes.

Exact
M0 knowledge items, M2 answers (numbers exact), role-play check questions.
Checked by rule
What you say (M0 “say” items, M1): right meaning + the key words + polite if it’s a request. Small grammar slips pass with a correction; accents and ñ are never graded. The goal is being understood, not perfect grammar.
Scripted
Every role-play character line.
Judgment calls
Correct Spanish the bank doesn’t list (counted right), and two role-play calls M3 names.
Rules of thumb (labeled)
Pronunciation and greeting times. Regions vary.
Not in it yet
Speaking and listening by voice (it’s typed), past-tense and other conjugation drills beyond M4's present tense, Argentina/Uruguay vos, other countries' slang, real prices, opening hours or tipping, medical advice.
